“While worshipping in the temple is presently not possible, I invite you to increase your participation in family history, including family history research and indexing. I promise that as you increase your time in temple and family history work, you will increase and improve your ability to hear Him.”

President Russell M. Nelson, “Hear Him”, April 2020 General Conference

Week 5 Summary & Objectives

During Week 5, let’s add a “memory” in FamilySearch. Many of the most precious, heart-changing family photos and stories are tucked away in our homes and in our minds. On FamilySearch we preserve memories so they can be shared for generations to come. This week, add one memory in the form of a photo, story,
document, or audio.

Step 1: Go to https://www.familysearch.org/

Step 2: Choose the person you want to add a memory to.

Go to their Person page. Click on the Memories tab from the menu located under their name heading.  An easy place to start is yourself and your immediate family.  Keep in mind, however, that memories of living people are not publicly viewable.  Memories added of deceased individuals are available for anyone to see who looks at that particular individual’s memories, making those memories possible for extended family members to enjoy.

Step 3: Upload a photo, document, story, or audio from your gallery or a file on your computer.

Make sure to tag the memory to the person or persons in order to identify who the memory is of.

Step 3 - Mobile Option: You can upload memories directly in the FamilySearch Family Tree app.  You just go to their memories tab, and there are options under the + button for which type you want to upload.

If you want to just upload to your Gallery, you would need to use the FamilySearch Memories app.

Download the “FamilySearch Memories” app to capture life as it unfolds.

Helpful Hints:

  1. Photos can be uploaded as a .jpg, .tif, .bmp or .png file up to 15 MB in size.  You can create albums in FamilySearch to sort your photos.
  2. Documents can be uploaded from a .pdf file.
  3. Stories can be keyed directly into FamilySearch; however, you run the risk of your computer timing out in the middle of the story.  Using a word processor to create the story allows you to edit and save as you go.  Then when you are finished, you can simply copy and paste the story into FamilySearch.
  4. Audio files can be uploaded from a .mp3 or a .m4a file up to 15 MB in size.
